A ‘breathtaking’ and ‘profound’ historical drama starring Sinners star Jack O’Connell is leaving Amazon Prime Video soon.

Following the release of Ryan Coogler’s new vampire film, which also features Michael B. Jordan and Hailee Steinfeld, Sinners has amassed a whopping $61million in its global debut.

As well as receiving rave reviews from critics, some have fans have declared the bloodthirsty horror as the ‘greatest cinematic experience in years’.

Central to much of this praise has been the terrifying performance of former Skins star O’Connell, who plays Irish vampire Remmick, who prowls the Southern states looking to spread his plague.

The Unbroken star was electrifying on the big screen as he showed off hisIrish dancing skills.

But, if you’re after another masterful performance by the 34-year-old, then look no further than his Belfast thriller ’71.

Set in Northern Ireland during the Troubles in 1971, the film explores a fictional scenario where a young British soldier, Gary Hook (O’Connell), is stranded behind enemy lines for the evening.

Taking place roughly a year before Bloody Sunday, a house-to-house search goes horribly wrong leaving Gary stranded as his unit retreats.

He then has to spend the night in a brutal war zone trying his best to survive without being detected.

Taking to social media, fans have praised this undiscovered gem and highlighted how ‘underrated’ O’Connell is as an actor.

Writing on X, @thatRobster said: ‘I’ve had ‘71 on my list for the longest time and just finally got round to watching it. What a movie!!!

‘There were some parts I had to rewind and rewatch a few times because I was in disbelief.’

@Steven_Armour) added: ‘Finally got around to watching the blistering ‘71 last night, set during the height of The Troubles in NI.

‘Manages to sustain unrelenting knife-edge tension throughout, while weaving in political machinations & emotionally affecting moments. Also Jack O’Connell = snack, obviously.’

@JackTheFact29 wrote: ‘Gritty, profound and breathtaking historical action-drama set during the height of Northern Ireland’s Troubles conflict.’

@ImPabloHurtado also described O’Connell as being ‘one of the most underrated actors working today’.

The action-packed thriller was released in 2014 and leaves Amazon Prime Video on May 2.

’71 is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
