Thunderbolts.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I had no doubt that <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/04\/23\/thunderbolts-marvels-darkest-material-yet-debuts-giddy-early-reviews-22958436\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/04\/23\/thunderbolts-marvels-darkest-material-yet-debuts-giddy-early-reviews-22958436\/\">Thunderbolts would be a roaring success<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>You might think I\u2019m lying, that I\u2019m just jumping on the bandwagon now that it\u2019s a proven box office hit and many fans believe it\u2019s saved the <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/marvel\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/marvel\/\">Marvel<\/a> Cinematic Universe (MCU) \u2013 but you\u2019re wrong.<\/p>\n<p>Ever since it was first announced, I knew it would be a smash, even when naysayers were convinced that it would flop. How could it not be, with <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/florence-pugh\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/florence-pugh\/\">Florence Pugh<\/a> leading the way as Yelena Belova, <a data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/sebastian-stan\/\">Sebastian Stan<\/a> returning as the morally grey yet endearing Bucky Barnes, and <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/julia-louis-dreyfus\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/julia-louis-dreyfus\/\">Julia Louis-Dreyfus<\/a> giving a scene-stealing turn as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, the villain you can\u2019t help but love?<\/p>\n<p>But despite the rave reviews, one aspect of the movie has sparked annoyance \u2013 the big reveal of its \u2018real title\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Fans were aware from the start that there was something fishy going on with the name of the film, considering it was officially called Thunderbolts*.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018What\u2019s with the Asterisk*?!?!\u2019 one Reddit post asked. After the anti-heroes dubbed themselves the Thunderbolts in tribute to Yelena\u2019s childhood football team, the end of the film finally revealed what the pesky asterisk was all about.<\/p>\n<p>As Louis-Dreyfus\u2019 Valentina stood in front of the prying eyes of the press, the silver-tongued politician declared to the world (in a whopping lie) that she had formed a new team of superheroes called The New Avengers.<\/p>\n<p>It was a big moment in-universe. The first being, some Marvel fans are extremely peeved off.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting underneath an Instagram video of the cast revealing the alternate title on a poster, one person called Marrie wrote: \u2018As a Marvel nerd I do not like this at all. Loving Thunderbolts vibes but can\u2019t we just leave it to that?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018They done destroyed the greatest superhero franchise ever,\u2019 Adnaan added.<\/p>\n<div Marvel fans convinced that the MCU will never be as great as it was during the Infinity War and Endgame era, they need \u2013 quite simply \u2013 to calm down.<\/p>\n<p>Putting aside the naysayers, many other people are extremely excited about what The New Avengers name change could mean for the future of the franchise \u2013 myself included \u2013 and they have good reason to be.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s take a trip back to the year 2016, when Captain America: Civil War was released in cinemas, a film that\u2019s widely regarded as one of the best ever released by Marvel But while Zemo might have been pulling the strings to pit the superheroes against one another, he wasn\u2019t really the cause of the conflict at the centre of the story.<\/p>\n<p>That conflict was the discovery made by Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) that Bucky had assassinated his parents when he was still the Winter Soldier. And to rub even more salt into the wound, his comrade Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) had known the truth and kept it from him.<\/p>\n<p>Cue one of the most devastating fight sequences in the MCU, which begins with Cap saying to Tony about Bucky: \u2018He is my friend,\u2019 to which Iron Man replies: \u2018So was I.\u2019<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-player\">\n<div class=\"video-player\">\n<div
