\u2018concerns\u2019 over the Asian stereotypes in Freaky Friday before jumping on board for the sequel.<\/p>\n<p>The body-swap <a data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/disney\/\">Disney<\/a> flick – a reboot of the 1976 movie of the same name – was first released in 2003, starring <a data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/lindsay-lohan\/\">Lindsay Lohan<\/a>, Jamie Lee Curtis and Chad Michael Murray.<\/p>\n<p>It followed bickering mother Tess (Jamie) and her teenage daughter, Anna (Lindsay), as they transform into each other after eating magic fortune cookies at a Chinese restaurant, given to them by the owner Pei-Pei\u2019s (Rosalind Chao) mom, played by Lucille Soong.<\/p>\n<p>In the upcoming sequel, which is directed by Nisha Ganatra and will be released on August 8, <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/03\/14\/freaky-friday-fans-nostalgia-fever-trailer-sequel-released-22731291\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the body-swapping takes on another level entirely<\/a> when other members of their family get involved.<\/p>\n<p>Shedding light on what we can expect, Manny \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/06\/24\/lindsay-lohans-iconic-film-getting-sequel-original-cast-21096401\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">who took on the role of Anna\u2019s fianc\u00e9, Eric<\/a> – \u00a0shared that he initially had reservations about signing up, due to the way other Asian characters had been portrayed in the first film.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018When I considered hopping on board, I remember watching the first Freaky Friday and being like, this did not age very well, regarding the diverse characters,\u2019 the Good Place star said in a new
