to lean into shaking up the tone of the new <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/marvel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Marvel<\/a> movie after MCU boss Kevin Feige surprised him with a request.<\/p>\n<p>Much has been made of the film taking on more of a \u2018pure cinema\u2019 style and approach like that of <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/07\/25\/unexpected-a24-hit-leaves-movie-audiences-torn-wide-open-weeping-21289505\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">critically acclaimed, indie darling studio A24<\/a> \u2013 including in the movie\u2019s own promotional materials, which featured a specially-designed trailer boasting its credentials.<\/p>\n<p>And now its cast \u2013 which includes <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/florence-pugh\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Florence Pugh<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/sebastian-stan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sebastian Stan<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/david-harbour\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">David Harbour<\/a> \u2013and creatives have defended that \u2018accurate\u2019 (if a little tongue-in-cheek) label while breaking it down for fans.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018From the moment I came onto the film, the first thing Kevin [Feige] said is, \u201cMake it different\u201d \u2013 and I wasn’t expecting that. But Kevin knows what he’s doing, and if he’s telling you to do something, just try to do it,\u2019 Schreier shared with <strong>Metro<\/strong> at the Thunderbolts* European premiere in <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/london\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">London<\/a>\u2019s Leicester Square on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>And while the A24 comparison he describes as Marvel \u2018having a bit of a laugh\u2019, there\u2019s also a lot that makes sense in that sell, from those working on it \u2013 Schreier was showrunner on <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2023\/12\/08\/this-officially-best-new-netflix-tv-show-2023-19947142\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">A24\u2019s Emmy-winning TV series Beef<\/a> \u2013 to how Thunderbolts* presents itself.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018We did bring in some new crew, a lot of people from Beef worked on this movie and did such a great job. So I think it’s just the sum of the experience that you take away at the end of it, something that can feel like a Marvel movie but also be entirely different.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Cast member Wyatt Russell, <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2021\/04\/25\/falcon-and-the-winter-soldier-wyatt-russell-talks-john-walkers-future-14468290\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">who plays John Walker<\/a> (the former would-be Captain America who debuted on <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/the-falcon-and-the-winter-soldier\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TV show The Falcon and the Winter Soldier<\/a>), also praised the A24 label as something \u2018that I really do think pairs well with what this movie had to offer\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018So using that in some of the promotions was really smart, it\u2019s accurate!\u2019 he chuckled.<\/p>\n<p>The 38-year-old actor \u2013 son of Hollywood mainstays Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn \u2013 also revealed how the \u2018indie\u2019 vibe of Thunderbolts* was apparent on set.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Everybody here has worked inside of a world like that and understood what that process was like.
