Magdalene melds early-2000s Britney, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.papermag.com\/christina-aguilera-cover\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Xtina<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.papermag.com\/madonna-cover\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Madonna<\/a> with her own distinct <em>very<\/em> 2025, DIY flavor. She even received input from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.papermag.com\/model-actriz-pitchfork\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>Model\/Actriz<\/u><\/a> frontman and recent Miley Cyrus collaborator, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/colehaden\/?hl=en\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><u>Cole Haden<\/u><\/a>, on \u201cLucky Girl\u201d lending the track the attitude of a punk smash. <\/p>\n<p>When its soaring chorus comes in \u2014 where she sings, \u201cBaby if you wanna get high on the weekend\/ I can show you how I stay up in the clouds\u201d \u2014 there\u2019s a sense of fun and grandeur, but also some sadness, too. \u201cIt\u2019s me poking fun at myself for being completely delusional and living in a reality where I believed I\u2019m going to be a huge pop star,\u201d Magdalene shares. \u201cI wanted to make a song where I\u2019m speaking that into existence and then acknowledging how unhinged that is in the chorus.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"rm-shortcode\" data-rm-shortcode-id=\"45bde137d5a32f7a5eaf7a08f1c37b4d\" style=\"padding-top:56.25%\"><br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Magdalene - Lucky Girl (Official Video)\" width=\"840\" height=\"473\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UoWv9cSCFVI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>In the single\u2019s video, Magdalene goes all the way out to freezing Wyoming, where she dances in a remote strip club with some local divas. In the visuals, she bathes in the club\u2019s red light, rides a mechanical bull in the icy tundra, and works it out on the pole, an art she was trained in by Wyoming\u2019s best, who are also featured in the video. \u201cThe girls made sure I didn\u2019t look like a dumbass dancing on the pole,\u201d Magdalene tells <em><em>PAPER<\/em><\/em>. \u201cI love those girls forever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em><em>PAPER<\/em><\/em> spoke with the rising pop star about shooting in Wyoming, pop fantasy and connecting with the dancers in the video.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p><img alt=\"\" class=\"rm-shortcode lazyload\" data-rm-shortcode-id=\"a3d104ec03ff9f5ca3cf22d5e1c77c4a\" data-rm-shortcode-name=\"rebelmouse-image\" id=\"78ee1\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-src=\"http:\/\/www.isshicare.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/img-115.jpg\"><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>What are some of the challenges and highlights from creating the music video?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We shot in -7 degree weather which was not easy, but overall filming this video was one of the most memorable and special experiences of my life. I formed deep bonds with the women from the club. They are my sisters for life. The whole shoot was so \u201cgirlhood.\u201d We held each other and cheered each other on. The girls made sure I didn\u2019t look like a dumbass dancing on the pole. We all really saw each other. I love those girls forever. They are amazing women.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How did you translate the song into the video?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The \u201cLucky Girl\u201d music video paints the dancer as god and men as her followers. I think a strip club is the perfect metaphor for the way women exist in this world. Women are the true power holders and will let men believe they are the ones in power when they know they are weak. True power does not have to be shoved down someone\u2019s throat. These women from the club are hustling in less-than-easy conditions and making it look effortless.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What was the inspiration behind &#8220;Lucky Girl&#8221;?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I wrote this song in my first year of sobriety which ended up being a very psychedelic experience. Having to be completely present for your life is crazier than any drug you could take. That\u2019s pretty much what the song is about. It\u2019s me poking fun at myself for being completely delusional and living in a reality where I believed I\u2019m going to be a huge pop star. That\u2019s what pop music is to me. The lyrics don\u2019t necessarily have to be a deep well of emotion for the song itself to have a deep well of emotion. Pop music can generate a feeling that exceeds the theme of its lyrics. I want people to feel whatever they need to feel.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are you working on and excited to share with fans next?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve got lots more music on the way and I\u2019m super excited for the next music video.
