Netflix<\/a> fans have just days left to watch one of the streaming platform\u2019s best original films, which has been described as a mind-bending \u2018masterpiece\u2019 and a \u2018modern classic\u2019.<\/p>\n

An exclusive film on Netflix in the UK<\/a>, Annihilation is the latest in a line of titles technically classified as Netflix \u2018Originals\u2019<\/a> to be removed from the streamer<\/a>, following shows such as The Alienist and horror movie His House.<\/p>\n

Written and directed by Alex Garland, the sci-fi horror film<\/a> \u2013 loosely based on Jeff VanderMeer\u2019s novel of the same name \u2013 stars Natalie Portman<\/a>, Oscar Isaac<\/a>, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tessa Thompson and Gina Rodriguez.<\/p>\n

Portman plays biologist and former soldier Lena, who heads with fellow scientists into The Shimmer, a mysterious quarantined zone of mutating plants and animals that appears to be a portal to another dimension.<\/p>\n

She embarks on the mission after her husband Kane (Isaac) is the only one to return from an exploratory expedition to the area, which is gradually expanding three years after a meteor landed on a lighthouse in the St Mark\u2019s National Wildlife Refuge in Florida, sparking its creation.<\/p>\n

A modern classic.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Drawing on mythology and body horror, Annihilation is an intelligent film that asks big questions and refuses to provide easy answers.
