One where they are killing zombies, of course.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, <a data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/netflix\/\">Netflix<\/a> announced the star-studded cast of Dolly Alderton’s <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/04\/12\/watch-another-pride-prejudice-remake-one-condition-22897350\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/04\/12\/watch-another-pride-prejudice-remake-one-condition-22897350\/\">new Pride and Prejudice adaptation<\/a> with <a data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/emma-corrin\/\">Emma Corrin<\/a> and Jack Lowden as our lead Austen-era lovers and <a data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/olivia-colman\/\">Olivia Colman<\/a> as Mrs Bennett. <\/p>\n<p>The streaming service has promised a ‘faithful’ take on the timeless love story that has captured readers’ hearts for centuries.<\/p>\n<p>And it follows in the footsteps of some of the most beloved reimaginings on screen from <a data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/keira-knightley\/\">Keira Knightley<\/a>’s 2005 movie (featuring the famed hand flex) to Colin Firth ascending out of the water in BBC’s 1995 series which inspired an entire aesthetic movement (see <a href=\"https:\/\/uk.news.yahoo.com\/jonathan-baileys-wet-shirt-scene-134703048.html\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/uk.news.yahoo.com\/jonathan-baileys-wet-shirt-scene-134703048.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jonathan Bailey in Bridgerton<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>There are, of course, some more unconventional adaptations whether watching <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/bridget-jones\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/bridget-jones\/\">Bridget Jones’<\/a> plight to find love (with Colin Firth as… you guessed it… Darcy), the Bollywood romp Bride and Prejudice or John Green’s YouTube video series, The Lizzie Bennett Diaries. <\/p>\n<div class=\"factbox\" data-ico=\"factbox_article\" data-track-module=\"factbox_article\">\n<h2 class=\"factbox-title\">\n\t\t\t\tGet personalised updates on all things Netflix\t\t\t<\/h2>\n<div class=\"factbox-content\">\n<p> Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro’s TV Newsletter.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/newsletters\/tv-newsletter\/?ito=tv-article&signup-source=tv-article-link\">Sign up to our newsletter<\/a> and then select your show in the link we’ll send you so we can get TV news tailored to you.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>As a devoted Pride and Prejudice stan I have, of course, watched pretty much any and all remakes under the sun and there’s one that is woefully underrated. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"445\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" class=\"article-image wp-image-22913238 lazyload\" alt=\"Lily James looking shocked in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.\" loading=\"lazy\" data-src=\"http:\/\/www.isshicare.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/SEI_38649266-1a00-e1744726057199.jpg\">\t<\/div><figcaption>Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is one of the most invigorating adaptations of the beloved novel (Picture: Jay Maidment\/Lionsgate\/Cross Creek\/Kobal\/REX\/Shutterstock)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The 2016 comedy-<a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/horror-movies\/\">horror<\/a>, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, is a tongue-in-cheek, subversive retelling based on the 2009 novel of the same name that just keeps on giving.<\/p>\n<p>Ignore the naysayers, I’ll defend this movie to my dying breath (and beyond).<\/p>\n<p>‘It’s a truth universally acknowledged that a zombie in possession of brains must be in want of more brains,’ – <a data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/lily-james\/\">Lily James<\/a> as Elizabeth Bennett in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.<\/p>\n<p>It’s a hysterical opening to this action-packed romp filled with witty one-line delivery that will have shock the laughter out of you (‘Zombies or no zombies, all women must think of marriage Lizzie,’ someone solemnly announces at one point.)<\/p>\n<p>The premise is what it says on the tin.<\/p>\n<p>In 19th-century England, the Bennett sisters must ‘juggle romance and family drama’ as they protect their homes from the army of zombies on their doorstep. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"430\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" class=\"article-image wp-image-22913227 lazyload\" alt=\"Film: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. You will be thoroughly delighted (and tickled) by how well these two seemingly oxymoronic themes merge together. <\/p>\n<p>We still have the longing gazes, heartfelt declarations of love, and period-typical scandal – with a side of undead slaughter. <\/p>\n<p>After all, there’s nothing sexier than literal life-and-death stakes to heighten one of the most iconic romances in literary history.<\/p>\n<p>The fast-paced, strangely fitting plot, is bolstered by a standout cast featuring Douglas Booth as Mr Bingley, Sally Phillips as Mrs Bennett and British actor Sam Riley as Mr Darcy.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"381\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" class=\"article-image wp-image-22913219 lazyload\" alt=\"The Bennett sisters in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies\" loading=\"lazy\" data-src=\"http:\/\/www.isshicare.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/AD_195962990-5195-e1744731935494.jpg\">\t<\/div><figcaption>It’s completely bonkers but totally worth the watch (Picture: Lionsgate)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>And for those who love Doctor Who star Matt Smith, your life is incomplete without seeing his turn as the woeful Mr Collins in what is a truly chaotic performance showcasing his comedic skill. <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Elizabeth’s naturally forthright nature is only heightened by her killing abilities, something Darcy frequently notes whenever he has the joy of watching our heroine fight.<\/p>\n<p>‘Post-apocalyptic period drama’ is already a sparsely populated subgenre so regardless of whether this is your cup of tea, there’s no denying that Pride and Prejudice and Zombies offers a unique take on this widely-known story.<\/p>\n<p>If anything, it’s the perfect movie to gather the girls for on a Saturday night with a bottle of wine and some popcorn.
