The upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel will ramp up the gore, blood and violence, the director has promised.<\/p>\n

The original horror movie hit the big screen in 1997<\/a>, with Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe among the stars.<\/p>\n

Hewitt and Prinze Jr, who played Julie James and Ray Bronson respectively, returned for the 1998 follow-up, which also starred Brandy Norwood, Mekhi Phifer, Matthew Settle and Jack Black.<\/p>\n

The pair have reprised their roles for the new slasher<\/a> – set to be released on July 18 -and fans have been calling out for Norwood, who played Karla Wilson, to pop back up.<\/p>\n

Teasing what the creepy hook-wielding killer has in store, director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who wrote the film with Leah McKendrick and Sam Lansky, was also questioned on whether viewers would get their wish.<\/p>\n

\u2018You’ll have to go see the movie,\u2019 she urged, explaining that they \u2018approached it like super fans, so I think people are going to be really happy.<\/p>\n

\u2018We have one really, really fantastic nod to I Still Know What You Did Last Summer that people are going to love.<\/p>\n

\u2018All the things that you want to see in this movie, you’re going to see in this movie.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018It is not a serious movie. It is a really fun, popcorn summer event,\u2019 she continued to People Magazine<\/a>, promising that the horror aspect is \u2018ratcheted up to a hundred in this \u2014 it’s much more brutal.<\/p>\n

\u2018There’s definitely more methodology to every kill in this movie, unlike the first, which is kind of just him stalking them and going after them.<\/p>\n

\u2018There’s not a lot of gore or blood or violence in the first one. There certainly is in this one.\u2019<\/p>\n

While little else is known about the plot, Norwood previously expressed her interest in reprising her role, telling the Hollywood Reporter: \u2018I need them to give me a call because I survived in that movie!<\/p>\n

\u2018I came out in the end, bloodied up, ready to go. I did not die in that film!<\/p>\n

The original 90s scare-fest followed a group of teenagers in a small town accidentally killing a man and covering it up \u2013 before being hunted by a hook-wielding serial killer on the anniversary of the attack.<\/p>\n

Julie and Ray somehow managed to survive the first movie and jetted out to the Bahamas for the sequel along with Karla.<\/p>\n

In the new I Know What You Did Last Summer, which is due to terrify us all in just a few months, a new group of youngsters will find themselves on the bad side of a psychopath.<\/p>\n

Madelyn Cline and Chase Sui Wonders are starring alongside Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, Billy Campbell and Gabbriette Bechtel in the reboot.<\/p>\n

The official synopsis reads: \u2018When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences.<\/p>\n

\u2018A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they\u2019re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer\u2026and is hell-bent on revenge.<\/p>\n

\u2018As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the legendary Southport Massacre of 1997 for help.\u2019<\/p>\n

I Know What You Did Last Summer is in cinemas on July 18.<\/em><\/p>\n
