Trump\u2019s calls for <a data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/canada\/\">Canada<\/a> to be annexed as <a data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/us-news\/\">America<\/a>\u2019s 51st state as he hits the country with <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/01\/31\/donald-trump-set-retaliate-tariffs-mexico-china-canada-22476566\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/01\/31\/donald-trump-set-retaliate-tariffs-mexico-china-canada-22476566\/\">heavy tariffs<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>While hosting the 2025 Juno Awards on Sunday \u2014 Canada\u2019s version of the <a data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/grammys\/\">Grammys<\/a> \u2014 Bubl\u00e9 made a strong statement about the American president’s recent comments.<\/p>\n<p>‘I\u2019m a hometown kid who never left. And as I stand here and I look out at my fellow artists in a sold-out arena with millions watching at home, I\u2019m proud to be Canadian,’ the hitmaker, 49, told the audience. <\/p>\n<p>He continued: ‘I\u2019m proud that when they go low, we go high.’<\/p>\n<p>The crooner seemed on the verge of tears as he said, voice breaking: ‘Bottom line, we love this country. We love it, and when you love something, you show up for it. And we always will. We will because we\u2019re formidable, because we\u2019re fearless, because we don\u2019t just acknowledge our differences \u2014 we embrace them. Because they don\u2019t just make us stronger; they make us a hell of a lot more interesting.<\/p>\n<p>‘We\u2019re the North, the Pacific, we\u2019re the Atlantic, we\u2019re the Great Lakes, we\u2019re the Rocky Mountains, and we are the wide open spaces. Folks, we are one of a kind. We are beautiful. We are the greatest nation on earth!
