href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/nintendo\/\">Nintendo<\/a>\u2019s first<a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/zelda\/\"> Legend Of Zelda <\/a>game for <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/nintendo-switch-2\/\">Nintendo Switch 2<\/a> is another Zelda centric spin-off set before the events of Tears Of The Kingdom.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It was extremely unlikely that today\u2019s Nintendo Direct for the Nintendo Switch 2 would feature the successor to <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2023\/05\/11\/the-legend-of-zelda-tears-of-the-kingdom-review-you-know-the-score-18766281\/\">The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom<\/a> considering that game only came out in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>However, Nintendo still had something for Zelda fans to chew on, especially ones who aren\u2019t quite ready to say goodbye to this iteration of Hyrule just yet.<\/p>\n<p>Announced exclusively for Switch 2, Tears Of The Kingdom is getting a whole prequel game and, much like <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/09\/25\/zelda-echoes-wisdom-review-time-finally-play-princess-21669017\/\">Echoes Of Wisdom<\/a>, it looks like it\u2019ll put Zelda in the starring role\u2026 though it\u2019s probably not what you\u2019d expect.<\/p>\n<p>Rather than a traditional adventure game, the prequel is also doubling as a follow-up to <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2020\/11\/18\/hyrule-warriors-age-of-calamity-review-button-mash-of-the-wild-13615957\/\">Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity<\/a>. So, that makes it another Musou spin-off in the same vein as the Dynasty Warriors games.<\/p>\n<p>Titled Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment, what little gameplay shown in the trailer promises a far smoother experience than the last game, which suffered from an inconsistent frame rate.<\/p>\n<p>The brief trailer also confirms that it is set during the events of the Imprisoning War, which took place thousands of years before Tears Of The Kingdom. This means Link himself could be entirely absent from the game unless some more timey-wimey shenanigans take place.<\/p>\n<p>As for who is playable, the trailer only confirms Zelda, Rauru, and Minoru so far, though it\u2019s safe to assume that Rauru\u2019s champions will be too. (YouTube)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When does Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment release?<\/h2>\n<p>Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment is <strong>currently scheduled for this winter<\/strong>. Although this could mean it won\u2019t drop until early 2026, Nintendo likely wants to try and have it available for the Christmas period.<\/p>\n<p>Whatever the case, this makes the new Hyrule Warriors one of the Switch 2\u2019s first exclusives from Nintendo alongside <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/04\/02\/mario-kart-world-leads-nintendo-switch-2-launch-line-up-looks-incredible-22769735\/\">Mario Kart World<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/04\/02\/new-donkey-kong-game-real-this-year-nintendo-switch-2-22838302\/\">Donkey Kong Bananza<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Nintendo hasn\u2019t provided pricing details for it, but if Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza\u2019s prices are anything to go by, it won\u2019t be cheap. The new Mario Kart will cost \u00a374.99 physically and \u00a366.99 digitally, while the Donkey Kong game is \u00a366.99 physically and \u00a358.99 digitally.<\/p>\n<p>This wasn\u2019t the only Zelda related announcement Nintendo had for the Switch 2.
