href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/rebecca-adlington\/\">Rebecca Adlington <\/a>has revealed she\u2019s been diagnosed with a life changing disease.<\/p>\n<p>The 36-year-old swimmer made a plea to the UK <a data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/british-government\/\">government<\/a> explaining that she has <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/03\/14\/embarrassed-allergies-risked-health-22725884\/\">coeliac disease.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In a video shared to Coeliac UK <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/instagram\/\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\">Instagram<\/a>, she shared: ‘I have definitely quickly learnt how vital gluten-free prescriptions are for managing this condition.<\/p>\n<p>‘But in some areas, these prescriptions are totally being cut. Coeliac UK is handing a petition to\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/downing-street\/\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\">Number 10<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0to make sure we’re heard, so please sign and share the petition today.’\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The condition is caused by a reaction to gluten.<\/p>\n<p>When someone with coeliac disease eats gluten, the body\u2019s immune system attacks its own tissues. We held her and had time with her. I couldn\u2019t of survived without you. I don\u2019t have the strength or words right now and don\u2019t feel ready to share this news.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca went on: \u2018However, I can\u2019t pretend to be ok or fake a smile. I can\u2019t have people ask me how pregnancy is or when I am due as I still look pregnant. I don\u2019t have the strength to tell this news individually. We are so truly heartbroken. Our beautiful girl.
