The first reactions to Disney<\/a>\u2019s controversial live-action remake of Snow White have landed, praising the film and its lead actress Rachel Zegler<\/a> as \u2018enchanting\u2019 and calling it one of the studio\u2019s best re-imaginings in recent years.<\/p>\n

Despite the movie attracting increasing backlash ahead of its release<\/a> \u2013 with criticism focused on its casting<\/a>, as well as CGI portrayal of the seven dwarfs, tweaks to the fairy tale\u2019s story, and a pared-back premiere approach<\/a> \u2013 the feedback so far has been largely positive.<\/p>\n

And early viewers have even sounded somewhat surprised to be applauding the movie after the constant condemnation it’s received ahead of release.<\/p>\n

Calling it \u2018one of their strongest ever remakes\u2019, Metro\u2019s<\/strong> film reporter Tori Brazier praised Rachel Zegler as \u2018an enchanting lead\u2019 and added: \u2018All the story tweaks work well for a modern audience and, after 88 years, it’s a reimagining that makes sense.<\/p>\n

\u2018It’s not perfect – the songs are a little hit and miss and the CGI dwarfs rightfully remain a contentious issue.\u2019<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Variety\u2019s Katcy Stephan went further, calling 23-year-old Zegler \u2018a shining supernova in #SnowWhite, beautifully embodying the graceful, gentle nature of the OG Disney princess\u2019.<\/p>\n

Platt at the world premiere on Saturday night in Hollywood after a more low-key publicity tour than usual (Picture: Rodin Eckenroth\/Getty Images for Disney)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Ahead of the event, <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/03\/13\/dwarf-actors-blast-snow-white-remake-replaced-cgi-characters-22718513\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dwarf actors expressed their fury<\/a> over Disney opting to use CGI characters, calling it \u2018discriminating in a sense\u2019 and claiming it was even \u2018damaging\u2019 their careers because Disney was \u2018trying too hard to be politically correct\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>This followed \u00a0Wicked actor <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/peter-dinklage\/\">Peter Dinklage<\/a> \u2013 who has a common form of\u00a0dwarfism\u00a0known as\u00a0achondroplasia \u2013\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2022\/01\/25\/peter-dinklage-slams-backwards-snow-white-and-the-seven-dwarfs-remake-15981827\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">branding the story \u2018backwards\u2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The actor, 55, said he was \u2018a little taken aback when they were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White but you\u2019re still telling the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Take a step back and look at what you\u2019re doing there.
