the greatest of all time’ by rom-com legend <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/richard-curtis\/\">Richard Curtis.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The<a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/09\/28\/i-played-villain-love-actually-time-overhaul-evil-reputation-21664344\/\"> Love, Actually<\/a> director heaped praise onto The Ballad of Wallis Island, which hasn’t even hit cinemas yet.<\/p>\n<p>It sees two former bandmates and lovers come back together for a supposed one-off gig for an eccentric and reclusive lottery winner who happens to be a super fan.<\/p>\n<p>Starring Tim Key, Tom Basden, and <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/carey-mulligan\/\">Carey Mulligan<\/a>, the film will be released on May 30 in the UK and has already found a huge fan in Richard, 68.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/alex-jones\/\">Alex Jones<\/a> and <a data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/harry-judd\/\">Harry Judd<\/a> on their <a data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/podcasts\/\">podcast<\/a> Binge, he said: ‘This is one of the ten greatest British movies of all time.’<\/p>\n<p>Richard continued: ‘It’s about pop music, it’s about loneliness, really romantic in a kind of muddy way. than that’.<\/p>\n<p>‘British, romantic, musical film,’ the <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2023\/09\/04\/about-time-film-cast-now-tenth-anniversary-19443987\/\">About Time <\/a>director concluded his praise.<\/p>\n<p>For the past three decades, Richard has remained one of the biggest names in the film industry, mostly known for <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/12\/04\/richard-curtis-romantic-comedies-arent-love-actually-22116835\/\">his British romantic comedies.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>His breakout screenwriting hit came in 1994 with Four Weddings and a Funeral, before Bean (1997), Notting Hill (1999), and Bridget Jones’ Diary (2001).<\/p>\n<p>Richard then turned his hand to directing with 2003’s Christmas classic, Love previously telling Metro he had a hard time cutting the swear words down.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018They said to me if you can get it down to 16 swear words, it can be a \u2013 whatever it was \u2013 a PG or something,’ Richard shared. ‘And I remember saying to the editor, \u201cWell, that\u2019s great, because there are only like 20!\u201d <\/p>\n<p>‘And he came back the next day and said there are 76 swear words \u2013 so it was lovely for me to be able to behave better.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>About Time ended up rated a 12 for \u2018infrequent strong language\u2019, not quite under 20 swear words then.<\/p>\n<p>The Ballad of Wallis Island is directed by Black-ish producer James Griffiths, originally premiering as a short film in 2006.<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-player\">\n<div <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/the-battle-of-wallis-island-tim-key-tom-basden-carey-mulligan-james-griffiths-sxsw-interview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ScreenRant<\/a>: ‘He meets his hero and, not that he notices completely, [it] immediately goes really badly. I guess he\u2019s just very resilient. <\/p>\n<p>‘I think maybe he\u2019s been through a lot. I think he\u2019s hardwired to see the good in people.
