An \u2018intense and immersive\u2019 period drama following Vikings<\/a> has quietly been added<\/a> to a free streaming service.<\/p>\n

Hitting screens in 2022, The Northman was directed by Robert Eggers <\/a>(The Witch, The Lighthouse, Nosferatu).<\/p>\n

It was based on the legend of Amleth <\/a>from Gesta Danorum by Saxo Grammaticus and followed a Viking prince who \u2018sets out on a quest to avenge the murder of his father at the hands of his uncle\u2019.<\/p>\n

Alexander Skarsg\u00e5rd played Amleth<\/a>, while Nicole Kidman<\/a> played his mother Queen Gudr\u00fan and Claes Bang was his uncle Fj\u00f6lnir the Brotherless.<\/p>\n

The movie also starred Anya Taylor-Joy, Ethan Hawke, Bj\u00f6rk, and Willem Dafoe.<\/p>\n

In its review, iNews wrote: \u2018Robert Eggers\u2019s rousing new film has all the ingredients you\u2019d anticipate in any self-respecting Nordic epic.\u2019<\/p>\n

it \u2018visually spectacular, brutal and superbly written\u2019 and a \u2018masterpiece\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Although it was critically acclaimed the movie struggled at the box office. The grandeur, the ancientness, the otherworldliness\u2026it was the most powerful experience ever.
