Amazon Prime Video is about to lose an Oscar-winning, highly praised film that had fans ‘enthralled’ by its gripping nature as it’s removed from the streaming platform in a matter of days.

Anatomy of a Fall, released in 2023 after premiering at Cannes Film Festival – where it won the top prize of the Palme d’Or – was a word-of-mouth sensation upon release.

The French legal thriller opened ahead of Oppenheimer at the French box office and grossed several times its $6.7million (£5.1m) budget after raking in $36m (£27.7m).

Anatomy of a Fall also clinched the best original screenplay Oscar, as well as being nominated for four more, including best picture and director, and boasts a massive 96% critics rating on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes.

Directed by Justine Triet, the film follows Sandra, a woman who is the main suspect in her husband’s suspicious death – presumed murder – after his body is found in the snow beneath their chalet in the French Alps.

As she goes on trial, the audience takes an unsettling psychological journey into the depths of Sandra and Samuel’s conflicted relationship.

The film stars Sandra Hüller in the lead role, who found herself a double Bafta-nominated actress for this and The Zone of Interest in 2024, as well as Samuel Theis as Samuel, Swann Arlaud as Vincent and Milo Machado-Graner as the couple’s partially blind son, Daniel.

Upon release, the movie received rave reviews, being dubbed ‘mesmerising’ and ‘one of the strongest courtroom dramas in recent memory, and so much more’.

The National proclaimed it ‘one of the greatest films of the contemporary era’ while the New Statesman’s review observed: ‘Anatomy of a Fall works brilliantly as a Hitchcockian thriller for today, but it has depths and resonances beyond the genre.’
