Netflix subscribers get a second chance to watch an historical spy thriller that’s praised for its superb performances and described as ‘required viewing’.

Operation Finale was actually classified as a Netflix ‘Original’ in the UK, as it was released by the streamer in October 2018 following its US debut in August of that year.

However, it was subsequently removed at a later date – as Netflix occasionally frustratingly does – but has now been added back to the platform.

Based on true events, Operation Finale is set in Argentina in the 1960s, where a team of top-secret Israeli agents travel to track down Adolf Eichmann, a Nazi officer who was one of the key masterminds of the Holocaust.

Hoping to capture him and sneak him out of the country to stand trial, Mossad agent Peter Malkin soon finds himself playing a deadly game of cat and mouse with the notorious and manipulative war criminal.

Directed by Chris Weitz, who has a career that also spans The Twilight Saga: New Moon, About a Boy and The Golden Compass, Operation Finale received mixed to positive reactions from both critics and fans, leading to fresh ratings on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes.

The critics’ consensus on the site reads: ‘Operation Finale is well-intentioned, well-acted, and overall entertaining, even if the depth and complexity of the real-life events depicted can get a little lost in their dramatisation.’

‘An engrossing yarn, featuring a magnetic lead performance by Oscar Isaac,’ praised Decider, while The Times’ review commented: ‘When a movie features Ben Kingsley, in a hefty Ben Kingsley role, doing what Ben Kingsley does best, that’s probably good enough in itself.’

Fans went even further with their approval though, as Kyle H wrote in his audience review: ‘This film is very eye opening and should be required viewing for everyone.’

‘Excellent acting. Sir Ben Kingsley has always been one of my favourites. This is a story that needs to be told and told again,’ added Judith D alongside her five-star rating.

Meanwhile Mitchell R called it ‘a must watch’, while on Google Steve Eliason shared: ‘I love true story movies, and this is a good one. Even if all the facts of what happened aren’t perfectly correct, it still is a good history lesson.’

Jo Save chimed in: ‘5 stars and a thumb up from me. Sir Ben Kingsley is incapable of giving a disappointing performance. This is one hell of a history lesson.’
